j QUESTION OF AMALGAMATION. I A special meeting of the Auckland Provincial Country Racing Clubs’ Association, held in Auckland luring the week-end, was attended by delegates from the following clubs: Bay of
1 Islands Racing Ciub, Whangarei Rac- ’ ing Club, Franklin Racing Club, Waikato Racing Club, Waipa Racing Club, Tc Kuiti Racing Club, Taumarunui Racing Club, Thames Jockey Club, Matainata Racing Club, Rotorua Racing Ciub, Bay of Plenty Jockey Club and Opotiki Jockey Club. The prevailing economic conditions and the position of country clubs were I discussed and it was generally eon- - sidered that some measure of relief must bo obtained to make it possible i for many of the clubs to carry on suci j cessfully. A number of suggestions were made > for cutting down expenses and endeav- . miring to obtain some reduction or re--1 mission in taxation, and it was decided ■ that concerted action should be taken with, a view to bringing about better •conditions for racing in the country ' districts and reducing the present heavy charges. Suggestions concerning the amalgamation of certain clubs and the centralisation of racing in country districts were also discussed, but no definite decision, was reached. I
