ITALIAN UNEMPLOYED

SCHEME OF RELIEF PLANNED PREPARED BY FASCISTS. LONDON, Aug. 12. Although the Italian Government has hitherto opposed the dole, it is now re cognised that a co-ordinated scheme of relief is necessary to deal with the unemployed, says the Rome correspondent of the Times. The total of unemployed in Italy is now 700,000. Signor Giuriati, the Fascist secretary, has circularised Fascist, secretaries throughout Italy, drawing attention to the importance of doing their utmost to relieve the unemployed families during the forthcoming winter. Ho urges Fascist organisations to unite in a vast scheme of assistance. Relief plans are well advanced in Rome, where there have been gifts of money and other contributions, including largo, quantities of wheat. Probably puhHc kitchens will be opened. Nevertheless, people are warned against any alarmist view as Fascismo “always prepares for the worst.”
