THE ROAD TO ROTORUA
ADVICE FOR GOLFERS. AUTO M( )BILE A SBOCIATIUN REPORT. In view of the Rotorua golf tourna* ment tu be held at the end of this month, the Wanganui Automobile Association has obtained reports as to the conditions of the roads from Wanganui to Rotorua. The shortest route is, of course, by the Parapara tu Raetihi, then to Tokaanu, j'aupo and Rotorua, a distance of 208 j miles. The Parapara is in fair order and although small slips arc still coining down alter rain, the road is being kept open. There are several greasy patches where slips have been cleared but there should be no troubled in getting through without chains. The Raetihi-National Park road is quite good. The National Park-Tokuanu Road was recently badly cut up by heavy lorries but most of the heavy traffic has ceased and the ruad is in better order now, chains not being required. There are several wet patches that require careful driving in low gear. The Tokaanu-Taupo and Taupo-Roto-rua are in quite good order. The other routes to Rotorua are via Wuitara -Te Kuiti - Kahikihi - A rapuni* Rotorua, a distance of 310 f miles. Al.' roads on this route are in good ordei but, of course, there is over 100 mile« further to travel. Another route is via Raetihi-Tauma-iunui-To Kuiti-Kahikihi-Arapuna-Roto-rua. This route is 40 miles shorter than the Waitara route but 60 miles longer than the Tokaanu-Taupo route. As the Parapara has to bc travera«\ in any case, there is much gained in travelling via Taumarui«*r. Taking everything into consideration, although there may be a few bad patches where careful driving is necessary, motorists are recommended to take the shortest route via Tokaanu-Taupo.
