Conveyance for Children. As an econo..iy measure the Department of Education has notified that the motor conveyance provided for Bonny Glen and South Afakirikiri school children will be discontinued after the end of this year. The department is of opinion that the children affected can travel by train to Alarton. It also considers that the charge for the present conveyance of 26s per school day is excessive, and has asked the Tducation Board to endeavour to have it reduced to £1 for the remainder of the year. At yesterday’s Board meeting a vigorous protest at the department’s action was made, it being contended that ccoi >my was demanded, but that this instance was not. one where it could be effected without undue hardship. The parents at Bonny Glen and South Alaki.ikiri had written entering tm'r protest. They were averse to allowing children to travel by and pointed out that that wo-ld involve some of them having to ’ ave home at 7 a.m. These particular ones would not return until af|er dark in the winter and would have to negotiate a bus- main road, their school day being one <»f ten hours. The Board supported these contentions and will communicate with, the responsible authorities.
