REDUCTION OF RATES

APPRECIATION EXPRESSED SOUTHLAND COUNTY COUNCIL Appreciation of the recent reduct inn of 20 per cent, made by the Southland County Council in the rates for the current year was expressed in a letter from the secretary of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand which was received at the last meeting of the council. The letter was as follows:—“Some months ago a circular was sent to all chambers of commerce affiliated to this association, pointing out. the urgency of local body economy, and requesting ‘hat they get in touch with all their respective bodies and urge upon them the necessity of drastic economy and consequent reduction in rates.
