GOVERNOR’S BAY INCIDENT MAN'S SWIM IN ICY WATERS [ Per Press Association. 1 CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 14. Swimming 75 yards through icV water at Govenor’s Bay, at the head of Lyttelton Harbour, this evening, G. Healey rescued J. Manhire from drowning, after Manhirc had fallen into the sea from a jetty. Manhire was a moderate swimmer, but was hampered by heavy clothes. Carried by the outgoing tide he appeared 20 yards fr ... the shore, calling for help and drifting out rapidly. A lifebuoy was thrown but failed to reach him. Healey then stripped and swam out with n rope, reaching Manhire when ho was 75 yards from tho shore. A third man pulled them in to safetv. Manhire was exhausted when he reached the jetty.
