In the presence of the French and Italian air attaches and the chairgian of the Schneider trophy committee, the draw for the starting order of the machines in the Schneider Cup race on September 12 took place at the Royal Aero Club to-day and resulted as follows:—Great Britain first, France second and Italy third. One machine of each country will start in that order ami the second and third machines will follow in the same order. The Italian team is expected to ar rive at Calshot during the week-end FRENCH MISFORTUNE Received Aug. 14. 11.50 p.m. PARIS, Aug. 14. The disaster which has overtaken •France’s 1931 secret 2000 h.p. Lorraine Schneider Cup seaplane has considerably impaired this country’s chances in the Cup race. While the engine was out on the testing ground working with full throttle it suddenly stopped with a tearing, grinding sound, but the exact details are not available. It is fortunate that the machine was not aloft at the time, otherwise another tragedy could not have been avoided.
