THE COMMITTEE’S REPORT

GOVERNMENT WILL NOT FOLLOW WORLD’S WAR-DEBT BURDEN By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. 1 Received Aug 10, 7.5 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 10. The Daily Mail says it is unlikely that the Government will follow the economy committee’s report. Mr MacDonald, in an interview at Lossiemouth, emphasised that the report was not the Government’s responsibility alone. “The Conservatives and Liberals insisted on setting up the coni mittee and we had to agree,” he sail. “The two Government nominees disagreed with some of the recommendations. The fact is that the Conservatives and Liberals want us to shoulder the responsibility.” The Prime Minister added that he was most unhappy at the harm the report had done Britain abroad. The Daily Mail says that Mr MaeDonald is convinced that the cure of the world’s financial troubles lies in a sealing down or a cancellation of war debts. He is at present exploring the question with Mr H. L. Stimson, Amencan Secretary of State. The Times, in an editorial, calls at tention tn the unofficial Labour condemnations of the economy committee’s recommendations, and stresses the fact that the present situation is a test for democracy. A continuation of financial recklessness would involve all section l of the community in common disaster.
