EONDON BUTTER MARKET. CHEESE STILL STEADY. The London butter market showed a very slight improvement last week. , New Zealand finest salted on Friday ‘ was quoted at 108 s and up to 112 s, as against 108 s to 110 s the previous week. Australian was 3s to 5s lower than New Zealand, while Danish on spot was selling at 114 s to 116 s. For the above butters the market closed firm. A notable fact is that the retail price of Danish, as well as of New Zealand butter, in London is Is 2d per lb. The extent of the season’s fall in prices is shown by the fact that New Zealand salted butter on August 7 was 25s to 28s a cwt. below tho quotation of a year ago, while unsalted is 37s a ewt. lower. Two years ago the price of salted was 169 s to 172 s a ewt. Danish butter to-day is bringing 40s a cwt. less than it was a year ago. The cheese market is steady, prices showing little change on the week. White is selling at 16s to 17s less and coloured at 18s to 20s less than the price of a year ago.
