ANNIVERSARY SERVICE

WESTMERE PRESBYTERIANS On Sunday afternoon, at the special anniversary service in the Westmere Presbyterian Church, there was a large attendance, including members from all the surrounding districts. The Rev. John Paterson, M.A., preached an able sermon on “Christianity and Everyday Life,” from the Cor.‘X. 31: “Whether therefore ye cat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” By referring to the everyday life of the people of Corinth, with their cruelty, slavery, sensual filth, and poverty, he showed that the world to-day had greatly improved. The early Christipne had to be heroes in order to live their higher life amidst such pollutions. He affirmed that to-day we could not escape being identified with the duties of life. Jesus was not a recluse but mixed with ordinary society. The great feature of the reformation of Luther was that it sought to bring back religion to daily life. Our work here, he said, was to carry on that which the Creator had begun—to beautify the world by endeavouring to glorify God in the everyday relation ships of life.
