Springvale New Potatoes
One resident of Springvale has been digging new potatoes for the last three weeks. Passing of the Tower The scaffolding is to be erected today for the removal of the Post Office tower. It is expected that a start with the actual work of the demolition of the upper work will be made to-morrow. Canterbury Visitors The touring Canterbury Rugby fifteen will arrive in Wanganui on Thursday next to play a match against the Wanganui representatives on Spriggens Park on Saturday. They will stay at the Imperial Hotel. Wellington “Invaded’" About 40 members of the Wanganui Savage Club invaded’’ Wellington on Saturday, entertaining about. 350 in the Masonic Hall in the evening. The Wanganui Club provided the whole of the evening’s entertainment, with the exception of several items by the Wellington Club orchestra. Yesterday the party was taken on a sight-seeing tour of the. capital, returning to Wanganui later in the day. Pound Day Collection The pound day collection on Sat.ur day for the needy proved to bo very ’dcasing to the ladies’ section of the Wanganui Relief Committee organising the effort. The district was that bound ed by the railway and the river. The response was very gratifying. Speak ing with a memb r of the committee a ‘ ‘ Chronicle” reporter was told that the Scouts had been invaluable with their Felp, and the committee felt also extremely grateful to those who had given tn assist others in more needy circumstances than themselves.
