M r A. Leigh Hunt lias been appointed chairman of the Wellington branch of the English-Speaking Union for the seventh time. Rev. A. Greig, of Portobello, neai Dunedin, is the oldest minister of the' New Zealand Presbyterian Church. He will be 93 years of age this week. Among the guests at Foster’s Hotel last evening were: Mr and Mrs L. Ros siter, Mr A. McFarlane, Mr H. R. \Vak< and M r J. F. Riches (Wellington), Miss i M. Macaulay and Miss A. Nicholson (Dunedin). The resignation of Mr J. M. Baxter secretary of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association for the past thirteen years, was accepted with regret at the meeting of the executive of the association last week. The annual meeting of the Wanganui Orphanage was held on Saturday after noon. Those elected to the committee were: Mrs Dexter, Mrs Henry Collie-, Mr J. B. Mae Bean, Mr C. W Poynter, Mrs T. C. Taylor and Mrs Hair. At the annual meeting of the Whenuakura Dairy Factory Company last Saturday a vote of appreciation of the work done by Mr W. Chatterton during his office as a director of the company, was carried with acclamation. Mr Chatterton had resigned owing to his leaving the district. The judges at the Wellington Competitions will be: —Elocution, Mr C. N. Baeyertz, Sydney; vocal, Air H. Dixon, Christchurch; dancing, Miss Cecil Hall. Auckland; national dancing.
