Fat P.A. cows to £5 (<•. SAAaES of the week. The Farmers’ Co-op Organisation Ho- , ciety of N.Z. Ltd., report as follows: — Moto activity has been displayed during the past week in all .ections; more enquiry is being made in dairy heifer section and a few outside buyers have been active and some sales of very choice heifers made during the week. There seems little difficulty in disposing of well grown, well done, good, quality heifers that will calve about the eml of July at round the £9 mark but there is a big drop in value after that and oven quality heifers which appear at all backward are hard to dispose of. Lines of medium heifers put up to auction are making from £5 10s to £7. The clearing sale season is in full swing and our salcw have been more successful than perhaps was anticipated, the best herds averaging from £8 10s to £lO for sound cows. A few private sales of herds still continue to be made with prices slightly higher if anything than the auction sales average. Weancr heifers are beginning to find favour again and enquiries are coming forward for good cattle, sales were made bv us at prices ranging from £2 to £3 ss. *Fat. Cattle: Slightly more enquiry in this section during the week, best fat cows £5 .10s; medium £4 to £4 15s. Fat Sheep: The Works' buyers are still active ami large numbers of fat sheep continue to find their way to the works. The market at Home is encouraging and it is to be hoped that values will stabilise for our next year’s supplies at the rates at present ruling. Fat wethers are worth from 13s 6d to 14s 6d; in the fat lambs’ section competition is keen and best lambs make up to 15s with good medium lambs 12s 6d to 13s 6d.' Fat ewes are getting harde- to find and butchers are paying about J2s for the best ewes available, supplies are becoming harder to find and there is a tendency to kill more wether mutton. Store Sheep: Enquiry has been active during the week for good ewes in lamb and ewe hoggets, sales of ewes have been made at 12s 6d for mixed age ewes r.w. S.D. rams, 16s 6d 2-th. ewes r.w. S.D., 13s for 4-year olds. Good ewe hoggets are in demand and command about 12s for good lines, with mediums- at from 10s to Ils 6d with a ready market for the better sorts. 2-th.'wethers arc again difficult to find and few arc quoting, wether hoggets are beginning to find favour again and quotations range from 8s 6d to 10s for well done hoggets a few sales being made. Store Cattle: Very little quoting in this section and values consequently declining, it appears that until fat cattle come into demand that there will be little movement in this section, A few sales of bullocks are going through but values are low and there is little demand at the present time throughout Taranaki for any other class of cattle ex cepting at very low money. Store cows continue to come in to‘auction sales but in decreasing numbers and rates | paid for good store cows vary from 30s I to £2; guaranteed sound empty cows are still making about 50s for the bettor quality sorts with empty heifers in demand at about the same figure. Pigs are coming forward and meet quite a ready sale at values considerably lower than had been ruling some time backstore pigs from Ils to 17s; smaller sorts 7s, 12s. Our auction sales during the week have attracted good entries store cow prices ranging from 30s to t-q 10s; fat and forwards cows £2 10s 1- 7 3 fo’\? airy cows at auction from £5 to £8 15s. Clearing Sales.—A sale conducted bv us at Tc Kiri on account of Mr E. W. n a . sh ?i! n attracted a large attendance but the cows wore backward and not in the best of condition and considering this disadvantage sold very well the best cows making £6 to 7s, with tho poorer'conditioned sorts calving late in September from £3 Jos to £s'horses, sundries, etc. at the usual clearnig sale rates. At Eltha.ni on Wednesday an excen tionally large yarding of 'sheep came forward for this time of year and met With good competition nt rates showing a slight advance on previous sale. The demand for cwq hoggets was keen, wo disposed of a line of good ewe hoggets at 11s 9d; two trucks of good medium ewe hoggets at 10s 7d with other sheen nt current, rates. The yarding of cattle met the usual competition At the Hawera sale a good line of mixed age ewes r.w. S.D. rams on account Mr L. H.
