POTATO ONIONS AND SHALLOTS

Potato onions, if not already planted, should be planted with as little delay as possible. These succeed best when planted while the bulbs are in a dor niant condition. After this time such bulbs are often difficult to procure. Shallots are a very useful crop to grow, especially for gardens of limited area. A few rows successfully grown will produce almost sufficient bulbs to meet household requirements. In planting, arrange the rows 12in. apart ami place the bulbs Bin. or Din. apart in the rows. Press the bulbs down in the soil until they are about three-fourths covered. The subsequent treatment consists in keeping the bulbs free from weeds, and occasional hoeing and loosning the soil between the rows.
