WANGANUI SALE I FAT SHEEP HARDEN FURTHER Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and (Jo., report as follows on the Wanganui sale held yesterday: The entry as advertis ed came forward to a good representative attendance of buyers. Tho sheet) pens were well filled, over which we had a good sound sale firm on recent sales. Fat sheep showed a slight advance on recent sales and wo anticipate a further hardening of the market. The cattle entry in the store pens was a Hgl-t one, over which we had a fair sale and a total clearance. The dairy section included both in-calf heifers and cows. The heifers were quite a good lot, but the cows were nondescript and low-con-ditioned. Bidding was very slack ami passings heavy. We had a full yarding of pigs of all descriptions. A special entry on account of W. J. Polson, Esq., met a good free sale, and sold at. prices very satisfactory from the vendor’s viewpoint. Breeding sows with litter at foot made between £6 and £7; sows to farrow made from £3 15s to £5 10s. Stores an I weaners made prices firm on recent sales. Sheep.—Prime ewes, Ils to Ils Gd; fat ewes. 10s to 10s 7d; fat 2-tootb wethers (light) 12s 9d to 13s 9d; fat lambs. 12s; small empty 2-tooth ewes, 9s lOd; 2-tooth ewes to Romney rams, 13s 9d; medium wether hoggets, 7s to 7s 7d; aged ewes to S.D. rams, 6s 8d to 7s. Gattie.—3 and 4-four P.A. Hereford S.H. bullocks, £4 6s, £4 15s to £4 17s Gd; 3-year S.H. steers. £3 4s; forward cows, £2 10s to £3; store cows, £1 to £1 10s; calved dairy heifers, £4 to £5; springing heifers, £4 10s to £5; aged dairy cows, £1 10s to £3 10s. Entries at the weekly market at Addington to-day were again very heavy, those in the fat lamb and sheep section establishing a winter record second only to that of the market la.:t week. Features were a decline of 9d a head for fat lambs, Is a head fur fat ewes, and decreased fat pig values. Store Sheep.—A small yarding of mixed appearing and a dragging sale for ewes, without change in values. Wethers were in demand and sold well. Values were: Good 6 and 8-tooth half bred ewes to 12s fid, medium s.m. open-woolled ewes 10s to Ils fid, good s.m. open-woolled ewes to 12s 6d, medium two-tooth halfbred wethers to 10s Bd, backward crossbred 7s to 8s fid, good six and eight-tooth halfbreds to 13s, ordinary to 9s 6d, good wether lambs to 9s 3d, ordinary ew r e lambs to 9s 3d, ordinary ewe lambs to 9s, backward 3s fid to Gs 6d. Fat Lambs.—An entry of 4600 and a keen sale, with export competition keen throughout. However, values did not maintain last week’s level, and there was an easing to establish values on a basis corresponding with export schedule rates. Values were: Show lambs to 28s 4d, extra prime 21s to 235, prime 19s to 20s fid, medium 16s 9d to 18s fid, light IS's fid to IGs fid, store lambs 10s fid to 13s. Fat Sheep.—An entry of 9300. A i steady sale. Export buyers operated J keenly. Values were: Extra prime j wethers to 20s 9d, prime 16s Gd to ■ 19s, medium 14s to IGs, light 10s fid to 13s 6d, extra prime ewes to 18s Id, prime 13s to 14s 9d medium 10s 9d to 12s Gd, light 8s 6d to 10s 3d, aged 5s 9d to Bs. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 335 head. The sale was irregular for all except best beef. Best beef made from 26s to 30s a lOOlbs, good prime beef 22s to 25s fid, ordinary to 20s, best heifer beef to 30s, good cow beef to 225, ordinary 13s to IGs. Values were: Extra prime heavey steers to £l4 2s 6d, prime heavy £lO tc £l2 10s, medium weight prime £7 10s to £9 15h, ordinary quality £6 to £7 ss, light to £5 10s; extra prime heifers £lO 17s 6d, prime £6 to £B, medium £6 to £B, medium £3 15s to £5 15s, light to £3 10s; extra prime cows to £ll 7s 6d, prime £5 10s to £7 10s, medium £3 10s 9d to £5, light to £3. Fat Pigs.—The demand throughout, was not us strong as last week, and prices were a little easier. Choppers to £4 17s Gd, baconers 46s to 525. large baconers 57 Gd to 69s 6d, average price per lb 4sd to s£d. Porkers 32s Gd to 7s 6d, large porkers 38s 6d to 44s 6d, average price per lb s|d to 64d. SALE AT WESTFIELD SMALLER ENTRIES OF FAT STOCK (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 17. Although the total entry at the Westfield fat stock sale to-day was not up to that of last week, most sections wore well supported, entries being drawn fr m all parts of the province. The beef market eased, best ox selling at up to 24s per .1001b’, best young cow ar I heifer at up to 235, and old cow made from 8s to 15s per lOOlbs. Choice heavy prime steers realised from £9 10s to £11; veals made 15s to 355. The fat sheep market held firm at ‘ late rates, prime wethers making from ' 13s to 17s Gd: ewes 10s Gd to 15s. ' Lambs sold round equivalent of 54d to 5Jd per lb. Bacon pigs made 54d lb.; porkers 5d to per lb.
