"NIL DESPERADUM" ANSWERS ROLL CALL

Dear Wendy,—Thank you very much for enrolling me as one of your happy band. I am delighted. I hope you are well, dear Wendy, and that you have no chilblains yet. They are horrid things to have. We had a lot of snow last Thursday, and it was a cold week-end. Did vou have any in Wanganui, Wendy? Mother is writing this for me, so as I can answer the roll call. You do not give us much time, Wendy, as we have only just got the paper and we must catch the mail out. as it is the last trip Saturday. I can catch my own horse out in the paddock now. but cannot put the bridle on him ; I have to put the reins around his neck and lead him home for mother or daddy to put the bride and sheepskin on—that is my saddle. I can open two gates now, like daddy, without getting off ciy horse. I will have a saddle when I get bigger. Can you ride a horse, W endy ? and do you like pups and bantams? Well, dear Wendy, I will close now and hope you are well. With best love to you and the Wendyites. Love and x x x x.—From “NIL DESPERANDUM.” Mataroa. So jolly of you to write this week, dear. Many thanks, yes. I am keeping quite well. I have no chilblains yet. Yes, they are wretched things indeed. No, dear, we have had no snow, but cold wind, rain and hall. You will see, I have extended our re-union until to-day, so you have not missed the roll call after all. Yes, I can ride. I love horses. Why puppies are dear little creatures, while bantams always have a warm corner in my heart. I hope you are quite well and happy, too. —Wendy.
