WORK TO RESUME.
TUNNELLERS’ DISPUTE STRATFORD TRUNK LINE MEN [ Per Press Association. ’ NEW PLYMOUTH, Juno 11. All sections of workers on the Strut ford main trunk railway, including tunnellers, have agreed to resume work tomorrow under the Government’s reduced scale of wages. Thus the state of idleness which hat prevailed at Tangarakau for over two months, has ended. Advice that the men have signed the agreement was received by the Public Works engineer at Stratford to-night. TAWA FLAT WORKERS NEW TERMS ACCEPTED [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, June 11. With the expiry of the time limit set by the Prime Minister, the tunnellers at Tawa Flat agreed to return to work on the Government’s terms, ending th* stoppage that began eight weeks ag>. The Government’s ultimatum stated that unless tho men returned to work to-day others would be taken on ’n the»? place. Tho Tawa Flat branch of the NewZealand Workers’ Union deliberated fm more than three hours to-day finally indicating that they were prepared Io resume, providing the stoppage did not constitute a break in service for holiday purposes, and that the inspecting engineer accompany a union representative on a visit to the several jobs to chock up the reduced prices. Both conditions were accepted. Afr Arthur Cook, secretary of the Union, said that tho "cuts” imposed were neither fair nor equitable, and acceptance of the Department’s • omli tions in no way indicated the men’s satisfaction.
