ENDURANCE SWIMMING
LEGLESS MAN’S FEAT. WORLD’S RECORD OF bl HOURS. SUVA, June 4. There has been an exciting undercurrent in Suva during the last few days. Suva folks arc slow to recognise the value of self-advertisement, bin they are now alive to the fact that Zimmy, known as the “Legless Wonder,” is going to advertise the Suva municipal baths even more than Arne Borg did.
Zimmy set out at 4 p.m. last Sunday to beat the Maori woman swimmer’s endurance record of 72 hours 21 minutes in Sydney. The Mayor, Hon. Al port Barker, gave the official signal to enter the water. Since then the swimmer had the bad luck of enduring three exceptionally cold nights, but native singers and dancers, many Europeans, and the gramophone helped to beguile the lonely hours. .Mr Myers brought native dancers during the afternoons, and took movie pictures, with Zimmy in the foreground. The Mayor received Zimmy out of the bath at 1 a.m. to-day, thus establish ing a world’s record of SI hours.
