FAMOUS COMEDIAN DEAD
PASSING OF WILL EVANS. Mr Will Evans, the comedian, died in London on April 4. He. had been ill at his homo at Brixton Hill fo r some time with paralysis of the brain. His death removes one of the fast-dimini-li-ing bund of music-hall artists whose names were known practically all over the world. t Air .Evans won fame fur his famoiiburque sketches, “Building a Chicken I House” and “Whitewashing the ■ -ilI ing,” and for ten years he was a lead ing comedian in the Drury Lane pan tomimes. Owijlg to ill-health, accentuated by the strain of his performances, he abandoned the music hall stage lot musical comedy, lie had toured in the principal halls of Europe, the I int. -l States, and Australia. Besides being a (dever comedian. Mr Evans wrote many of tin* sketches ind songs which helped him to fame, and he was part author of “Tons of Money” and “ I’he Other Mr Gibbs. Night, watchman. A deputation from tin- (’haniber of ('ommerce. comprising Messrs L. F. Baird. B. Gibbons. A. W. Ashwcll ami W. Jack (secretary) waited upon the council with regard to the nightwatchman. The ( haniber paid the accident insurance premium for the man and asked that the council make a grant or arrange to have the man included in the council’s poliiy. The request was referred to the fin I ance committee for COirrid H.Uion and 1 report.
