ALLEGED MURDER

ATTORNEY ARRESTED. * LOS ANGELES, May 22. David Clark Young, former Deputy District Attorney, is held by the police on a charge of murder, after surren dering for questioning for the double killing of Crawford and Spencer. A sensation was caused at Los Angeles by the jpurdcr of Herbert Spencer, former chief of staff of the Evening Express, and Charles Crawford, a well known figure in political circles, by an unidentified gunman who shot them down while they were conversing in Crawford’s office in Hollywood. The assailant ran in through the front door, fired point-blank at his victims, then dashed out.

No motive for Jhc crime has been disdosed.

Spencer, who was a veteran police reporter, told his colleagues that he was going out to get some ••underworld stuff.’’ He was conversing with Crawford when a gangster entered Craw ford’s office and began shooting, afterwards escaping in a waiting motor car. Crawford lingered a few hours, then died on the operating table, saying he knew who fired the shots, but declined to give the name. Last year Crawford caused the arrest of Aforris Lavine, of tho Los Angeles Examiner, charging him with blackmail to the extent'of £15,000. Lavine was convicted, but Crawford’s money is still impounded by the Courts.
