PARADISE FOR WIVES

BRITAIN’S MODEL HUSBANDS. MEN WHO BATH THE BABY. Britain must be a paradise for wives. Following the claim put forward iu the Sunday Chronicle recently for Air. Evan Bon wick, of Brighton, and Air. George Clegg, of Ashton-under-Lyne, that they were perfect husbands, other husbands have advanced their claims to the title from all parts of tho country. “I am 32, have one boy and a delicate wife,” Air. P. Alorton, of Balham, London, said. ‘‘When our boy was young—he is nearly five now—4 used to bath , him many times, change his clothes, make-up and give him his bottle. “I can wash and iron, darn my socks and patch my shirts, sew on all my buttons and knit jumpers as well! I get up every morning and take my wife a cup of tea, after which I prepare breakfast, tidy up generally, and make a different dish for every day of the week, from fish to savoury omelettes.” A Blackburn husband puts forward his claims to be the perfect husband as follows: —“I clean the house through once a fortnight, and in addition to keeping all my children decently clothed I bake 401 b. of flour every week in addition to pastry making. Mending and darning take up two evenings a week, and I mend all the children’s clogs and shoes. At. present, being unemployed, I am cultivating a plot of land.” A Bristol husband proudly proclaims that he is able to “make the children’s clothes by machine, bob or shingle the girls’ hair, and mend their clothes and darn anything.” And there the matter rests for the present. Who is Britain’s most perfect husband?
