DREDGE TO CEASE WORK

DECISION AT NEW PLYMOUTH SAVING £lO,OOO A YEAR NEW PLYMOUTH, Mny IB The New Plymouth Harbour Board has decided, for reasons of economy, that the dredge Paritutu, which has been working continuously for over 20 years at the port, is to be laid up for an indefinite perio I at the end of this month. By this economy, which is regarded as the only alternative to striking a land rate, the board hopes to save £lO,OOO a year. It is proposed to allow the dredge to lie idle for about a year, and possibly longer if the sand does not prejudice the efficiency of the harbour.
