CLASSIC SYDNEY BOUT PALMER BEATS BUNDREN DISAPPOINTING CONTEST Received Al ay 17, 5.5 p.m. SIDNEY, May 17. ' At the Stadium .12,(JOO crammed the building to witness last night’s classic | contest of fifteen rounds between Ambrose l.’aliner (11.10), middleweight’ champion of Australia, and Herman Bnndrcn (11.0', of United States. The first six rounds were not spectacular. Herman, the taller umn, was anxious to get his opponent s measure. Palmer then began to force the issue and evaded Herman’s solid lefts by clever smothering and excellent ring--craft. Palmer continued the aggressive to the end. The crowd many times counted out the American, who was •continually on the defensive and clinching. He seemed bent on a knockout and nothing else. Palmer fell out of the ring on one occasion, and on two other occasions fell. The contest, which was rather onesided, was a little disappointing aud all in favour of Palmer, who was awarded the decision on points. Among the preliminaries, in ten rounds Bobby Scone (9.9) knocked out Glen Urquhart (9.8), of New Zealand, in the sixth round. Jack Haines, former middleweight champion, who nearly died after a fight with Palmer some months ago, was introduced and received an ovation from the huge crowd.
