BULLS

BULLS RIFLE CLUB A meeting of riflemen interested in the formation of a chib in Bulls was held in the Town Hall supper room ou Thursday evening. Air C. AL Broughton was chairman, and F. J. Soler, of tho Wanganui Rifle Association, was present. The opinion w..s expressed by several that a strong Hub could bo formed, and to put the idea in motion Air Soler proposed, “That a lub be formed, to be known as the Bulls Rifle <’lub.” Dlr J. B. Robins seconded, and the motion was carried inanimously. Election of officers. —Tho following officers were elected: President, Mr J. B. Robins; deputy-president, Air D. Lu inly; secretary and treasurer, Mr S. \V. Hodges; committee, tho president. deputy president and secretary (ex officio), and Messrs W. Innes, F. Simpson, W. Tarrant and C. M. Broughton; handicappers, Alessrs W. lunes and D. Lundy. The subscription was fixed at 15s. TOWN BOARD Tho monthly meeting of the Bulls Town Board was held ou Thursday evening. Present: Messrs J. E. Walker (chairman). G. D. Flower, F. A. Holland, C. C. Price, M. C. Gould, W. Innes and J. F. Flynn. The report of the foreman (S. Howard) for the month ending May 14 was as follows: All main roads have been graded seven times by the county grader; metal has been screened in pit, and 10 yards placed on Bridge Street; grit has been put on road at entrance to Town Bridge; tho footpath in Johnston Street has been completed; paths at the cemetery have been kept cut; a ramp has been put in at the entrance to Air Holland’s residence. Relief workers have cleaned up and burned all blackberry at the foot of Rec. Hill; also have levelled ground and widened ’•oad at foot of hill, and half of the hill and making a new road are now engaged widening the top for cows taken to the Rec. Wood and blackberry have been cut on the Domain.

Correspondence.—From Mr F. F. Ralfe, on behalf of ratepayers and residents of Johnston Street, expressed apprcciatiou of the excellent footpath provided for those using the street. From, the Department of Internal Affairs, crediting the board with £3B 10s, being proportion of auctioneer’s license issued to Messrs Levin and Co. Finance.—All accounts were in credit, and collections for tho month were: Rents £l6 ss; bowser rents £10; rates £1 Is 4d; cemetery £6 ss; library £7 9s; Domain £2 7s 6d; total £43 7s lOd. Accounts were passed for payment under the following headings. District fund £B9 10s Id; library £4 Bs. Town Hall.—The charges for the Town Hall and supper room were discussed at length, it being painted out that the lighting was used for preparation for balls and dances for one or two nights before actual functions took place, and as the charges were reasonable it was resolved that meter rent be charged in future for lighting. Broken Windows. —It was reported that another shop window had been broken in Bridge Street, by stones flung up by passing cars. Windows in Air F. J. Mansell's buildings had suffered considerably, and it was agreed that “speeding” was chiefly responsible. In order to meet the difficulty it was resolved to engage a traffic inspector to control the motorists, and in the meantime two loads of “fine chips” will bo spread ou tho affected area. Works Committee. The following were appointel for the ensuing month. Messrs W. lunes, C. C. Price and G. D. Flower. Domain Board The above members then sat as a Domain Board. The chairman reported that a great amount of work had been done ou the Domain. The entrance had been improved, and the road widened to permit two cars passing. Blackberry had been cut and burned, and a new cow track was being formed. Mr Price drew attention to tho holes in the road from Domain entrance to the football ground, and it was resolved to have these filled in. The chairman suggested that further attention should be paid to the blackberry area, and that soil be placed on the section outside tho entrance gates. Also, that where trees had been removed new trees should be planted to keep down tho blackberry.—lt was agreed that pinus insignus would be the best to counteract the growth of blackberry, and native trees, inkaus and pungas, would be planted to add to the beauty of the Domain. Rating Reverting to Town Board business, the chairman’s motion (notice of which was given at a previous meeting) was carried, viz., that the rates bo as before: General rate Is sd, lighting 6d. bridge 4d, footpath 2d. Rates are due ou June 29, 1931. FOOTBALL The following will represent Bulls seniors against Hunterville, at Bulls, to-day: J. Preston, C. Timmins, C. Bartlett, C. Ellery, L. Harper, E. Green, J. Homes, L. F. Homes, G. Richardson, R. Cameron, F. Gallagher. L. Meads, L. Whisker, J. Dwyer and D. Cameron. Emergencies: F. Cutts and G. Simpson. A great number of young players are coming forward for the fourth grade team, and a practice will be held on the Domain :.t 1.30 p.m. to-day.
