Two Italian fishmongers—Salvatore Dcstefan and Bartoilo Destcfan—wen. prosecuted to-day by the Department of Labour for failing to register under the terms of the Unc inpayment Act. |- was the first case since the introduction of the new legislation. Both admitted the offence and were each fined £2. It wan stated that tin- men weir uu naturalised, and when interviewed bv n constable told him that they though'| that they were not <•<mpelled to regi- | ter as they were not British subjects. It was very difficult to tiace people who had failed to register The Magistrate I asked why these two unnaturaliscd ItnJians had been selected for a proswu tion of this kind and the answer.given was that they were men brought under th© Department’s notice.
