ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY TWO WANGANUI INSTANCES [ Per Press Association. J CHRISTCHURCH, May 11. The Court of Directors of the Royar Humane (Society ot New Zealand, to day made the following awards for bravery: Bronze Medals. —Peter Scott Isbistcr, Arthur Bollinger and Lawrence Johnson of Island Bay, Wellington, who recued one man and attempted to rescue others from drowning at Island Bay on {September 30, 1930. Margaret Olive &wabey, nurse at. Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, for rescuing a woman from drowning in the Waikato River on October 5, 1930. Nurse Swabey, fully clothed, and in semi- darkness, jumped down a steep bank 20 feet high, into the river in pursuit of au escaped mental patient. The bank at tins place is unscalable arffl the river ruus swiftly and is very deep. Nurse (Swabey caught the demented woman, who is strongly built, pulled her to the bank, and there held on to a tree until help arrived. A certificate was awarded to Mcrvyn Leake, Wellington, for rescuing a man from drowning at Evans Bay on December 26, 1930. Au in memoriam cer tilicate was granted to the next of kin of Sydney Albert Longuet, Wellington, who lost his life in attempting to rescue a girl from drowning in tho surf at Otaki beach. A letter was sent from the court congratulating Clifford George on his action. George assisted Longuet 111 his efforts to rescue the girl. A certificate was awarded Manuhin Grenncll, Chatham Islands, for attempt mg tho rescue of a man from drowning on March 17, 1931. Letters of commendation were awarded Josephine Warren and Georgina Warren for rescuing a girl from drowning at Gisborne on January 5, 1931; Daphne Schell’,‘ aged 16, Cromwell, rescuing a girl from drowning at Bluff on January 1, 1929; Ivan Turnbull and Kicnard Coxon, both 19, rescuing a woman from drowning at Dunedin on November 13, 1929; William Jack Taylor, aged 17, of Wanganui, rescuing two men from drowning at Wanganui on September 30, 1930, Lovey Tiako, rescuing a boy from drowning in the Wanganui River on D'comber 19, 1930.
