RACING AT AWAPUNI

MANAWATU WINTER MEETING I PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME i Official advice that the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Racing Conference have approved of the dates submitted by the Manawatu Racing Club—July 22 and 23 —for an extra meeting, has been received at Palmerston North. A provisional programme has been drawn up which provides £2125 in stakes compared with £2400 last year. The Autumn Steeplechase, of three miles, and tho Clifford Handicap are to be tho principal events for the first day, while tho open hurdles and the Newbury Handicap will be tho principal second day races. The following are the provisional stakes: Autumn Steeplechase, £250; Clifford Handicap, £200; Open Hurdles, £200; Newbury Handicap, £175. Tho following officials have been appointed for the meeting:—Handicapper. Mr J. E. Henrys; judge, Mr W. P. Russell; starter, Mr W. C. Price; clerk of scales, Air AV. Rnndell; clerk of course, Mr J. J. Waller; timekeeper, Mr P. F. O ’Connor. Tho club has decided to reduce its entrance fees for the next fixture.
