FRANKLIN RACING CLLB. PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY By ‘ • Kest i el. ’ ’ Proximity to Auckland and also to the Waikato district gives Pukekoln a great chance for success in its racing ventures, and as a result the recentlyestablished Franklin Pacing Club has gone ahead by leaps and bounds. The dub has not launched out on an ambitious scheme of building stands or electric totalisatorp and thus there is no huge overhead debt to neigh it down. Being able to point to a totalisator turnover of more than £20,000 at its recent summer meeting, held in the first week of March, and attracting support from so many local owners and trainers, there is every prospect of the extra meeting to-day proving a success, tor the fields have filled remarkably well. As a matter of fact there was such a large acceptance for the Pukekawa Hack Handicap that a division has been made of the field ami the event will be decided as two separate races. According to latest advices from Auckland the weather has been line, and thus it may be expected that track conditions will be suitable for ‘'hose candidates which prefer firm go«•«». With twenty engaged in the Bombay Hurdles there is a bit of a problem for backers, who may be found preferring Arch Eagle, High Pitch and Quinsilla. The First Pukekawa Hack should find Bronze Tray, Camp Prince and Hollyholm well supported, lor the trio have recent form to commend them. It is an even better field that will contest the Second Pukekawa Hack, and this should lead to an interesting finish. Jalldy Karo, King Ford and Principal appear to have the best credentials. The sprinters are conspicuous by the scarcity of their numbers in the Harrisville Flying, in spite of a stake of £l5O. Paganelli would be preferred on a firm track, while Gold Money would carry most money if th' going proves at all holding. Tf anything is to beat either of them it should be Hard Words. Hampton Park is not a certain starter. They are an even lot that will contest the Pukekohe Cup, the field including the Taneriri-Manawhenua bracket. Royal Doulton won the Franklin Handicap on this course two months ago! True blood is an honest sort and Antique is most consistent. Eager Rose has run sonic good races at Pukekohe. while Sir Mond seems to thrive on all his racing. It is stated that Taneriri may be reserved, the stable relying on Manawhenua, but if he starts he will be well supported. British King appears the best of the others. Backers may declare for Royal Doulton, Antique and the Taneriri-Manawhenua bracket. Five furlongs is the distance for the To Hohanga Handicap, and that should suit United. Whakapara and Royal Gallant. The hacks will have nine furlongs to cover in the Puni Hack Handicap, and over this distance Taurua, Royal Survey and Alloy look like being dangerous. To conclude the meeting there is the Paerata Handicap, in which Chief Joy may be the favourite. Both Vandyke and Havering arp in J. Gray’s stable, and which ever 11. Gray rides will be well backed.
