LIFEBOAT SERVICE

ISLAND BAY’S REQUEST AIR FORBES’ REPLY. ( Per Pi-mRs Association. J WELLINGTON, May 8. The necessity for a lifeboat service at Island Bay was stressed by a deputation to Mr Forbes which urged that had a lifeboat been available on the occasion of the Progress disaster it would have been possible to save the lives of all of the crew. Mr Forbes expressed sympathy with the request, but said that lie thought the whole matter should bo inquired into by a conference of representatives of the various interested parties, including the Government. He subsequently made, a suggestion that Island Bay residents might se<« their way clear to raise a fund, and in the event of that being done he would bo prepared to consider making a 5050 contribution.
