MAORI GIRLS IN COURT
LIQUOR -SUPPLIED BY MAN. COMPLAINT AfZIDE BY BROTHER. TE KUITT. March 19. Two young Alaori girls, each not more than 17. wore charged before Air F. W. Platts, H.M., to-day with having no visible means of support. The police evidence went to show that one of the gi’ls had been brought to the police station in a state of intoxication by her brother, who had laid a complaint with regard to the supply of liquor to tho girls. As a result of the brother’s complaint tho police wont to rooms in Rosa where a white man was found. Sergeant Fernley said the man who had supplied tho liquor would be proceeded against when ho was found. Air Alorton, who appeared for the girls, stated that they were cousins and descendants of a famous tribal chief. Ono had lost her mother nt the ago of live and had been loft without proper parental control. 1% tho cireum stances he would ask that the girls be not sent to prison.
The charge against one girl was adjourned to enable her to bo received in tho Otaki sanntoriuni. Tho other girl was committed to the care of the probation officer.
