BULLS

THE CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL. Air J ,E. Walker presided over an attendance of 27 persons interested in the Christmas Carnival, and heads of various committees reported progress. Mr W. Deans (Number Competitions) stated that arrangements were well in hand. Numbered booklets would be posted to residents of Bulls, Parewanui, Sanson, Ohakea and Carnarvon early in the week, and free gifts were left to the discretion of the business peopl?. The numbers of the gifts would be changed daily, and when claimed would be marked with owners’ names, delivery being given at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Mr F. A. Holland (“Father Christmas” committee) said that the gentlemen who had undertaken to share this position were ‘‘practising hard.” (Laughter). The secretary stated that a suitable costume had been hired. Mr 8. Rich (“Old Time’’ dance) said that musicians and hall had been engaged; tickets distributed; and all that remained was for the crowd to roll up. Mr F. J. Mansell (marshal of the children’s fancy dress parade) reported that parents had taken the matter up enthusiastically and had any number of fancy dresses left over from the recent children’s ball. His suggestion that the following names be added to the committee were approved:—Mr H. W. Olson and the school teaching staff, Mrs F. and Messrs I. Gibbs and D. Hayes. Appointments.—Mr G. H. Archer was appointed hon. treasurer, and a finance committee elected .comprising Messrs A. J. Petrie, W. Dean, J. E. Walker, and the secretary and treasurer.

Baby Show.—Airs Kearney reported that a good number of babies would be entered, and a lady from an outside town had kindly consented to do the judging. Greenery.—Air J. E. Walker mentioned places where greenery could be procured and offered to do the carting. Donations.—The following further donations were accepted with thanks:— Mr F. Brookie, a turkey; Mr A. E. Hansel] (Palmerston North), a ham; Rangitikei Golf Club (per Air H. Wilson), £1 Is; Bulls Football Club (per Afr H. Wilson), £1 Is; Rangitikei Racing Club (per Air G. H. Archer) £1 Is; Bulls Tennis Club, £1 Is; and promises of donations from Dr. Watson, Colonel Powles, Air K. W. Dalrymple, Air D. W. Wilson and Air Horace Wilson. The last-named gentleman was warmly commended for the interest which tie was taking in the carnival. Mr F. Holland outlined the sports programme, which would include three road cycles events; half mile, prizes (orders) 15s and 7s 6d; one mile, 21s and 1 10s 6d; one and a-hilf mile, 21s and 10s 6d; cycle thread the needle race, 7s 6d and ss. Children’s races would be run at intervals from 0.30 p.m. and all races would he open to ttiose living within six miles of Bulls, Parewanui included. Bank selections, items by the “Merrymakers,’’-and community singing would follow the sports. The instruments for the band were now available, and all willing to lend a hand were invited to attend a practice un Alonday evening. Transport.—The following committee was set up to arrange for free transport of outsiders: Alessrs W. Dean, G. H. Archer, I. Gibbs, S. Hodges and the secretary. Donations towards the transport fund were received from: Air I. Gibbs, £1; and Air S. Hodges, £1 Is; both donors being accorded hearty votes of thanks. General.—lt was resolved to refuse permits to private showmen to show In the town during the Carnival. The Progress League meeting was postponed until after the Carnival. The next meeting of the Carnival committee will be held on Wednesday. LODGE MEETING. The regular fortnightly meeting of Rangitikei Lodge No. 14, 1.0.0. F., was held on Thursday evening, N.G. Bro. Young presiding over a very good attendance of members.

Correspondence was read as follows: From District Lodge, calling for nominations for the office of District Deputy Grand Master. From Kowhai Rebekah Lodge, extending an invitation to a social on December 17. From Grand Lodge, re outstanding returns. From District Lodge, advising that Bro. L. Hill had been appointed DeputyReturning Officer for the election of Grand Lodge representatives. From the Manawatu United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary, advising that the annual meeting will be held in February, and asking names and addresses of delegates from this Lodge. From D.D.G.AI., Bro. Robb and Hylton Lodge, sending the season’s greetings.

Christmas Tree. —It was decided to hold the Christmas Tree festival on December 18, instead of on the 19th, and Bros. Alansell, L. Hill, H. Clarke. E. Petersen, J. Dwyer, R. Young and H. Burtt wore appointed a committee to attend to the running of the function.

Picnic.—The question of holding a combined picnic was held over until next meeting. Ono candidate was proposed for membership. It was resolved to hold the next meeting on Monday, December 29. Fraternal greetings were conveyed from Hylton, Orient and Kia Ora Lodge.
