The annual meeting of the Wanganui East Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held on Thursday afternoon when Mrs Duxfield presided. A vote of sympathy with Mrs Walker in her illness was passed, and deep regret and sorrow were expressed by members at the sad news received of the death of an old and esteemed member, Mrs Williams, of Epsom. A vote of sympathy was shown by the members standing in silence. A letter is to be sent to the husband and family expressing the union’s sympathy.
The secretary read her report of the year’s workings, and the treasurer’s report showed a satisfactory balance of £l3. Both the reports were adopted, and votes of thanks were passed to the treasurer and the secretary for their work.
During the year £2l had been voted to tho Million Shilling Fund, £2 10s w T ore voted to the New Zealand Organising' Fund, one pound to the St. Albans’ Trust, £1 to the Willard Homo and 10s to the Maori Fund.
The following officers were then appointed for the ensuing year: President, Mrs Duxfield; secretary, Mrs W. J- Andrew; recording secretary, Miss Sanson; vice-president, Mrs McLeod; treasurer, Mrs Francis Brown; superintendents of departments, Evangelical and notable days, Miss Sanson; home meetings, Mrs Chisholm; hostel and rest room, peace and arbitration, Mrs Duxfield; Press, legal and Parliamentary, Mrs Andrew.; white ribbon agent, Mrs Melvin. It was decided to hold the next meeting on Thursday, February 12, 1931- The meeting was then closed by the benediction.
