DISPLAY OF FAT LAMBS

WAVERLEY A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

The special display of fat lambs conducted by the Waverley A. and P. Association on Friday, November 28, attracted considerable attention and constituted what is probably the finest display of show lambs seen in this island this year. The total of 46 entries (138 head), is undoubtedly a. record for the association and demonstrated the interest displayed by the farmers of the district in the display. Judged for export by a well-known fat stock buyer, the results of this competition are already well known to the public. At the conclusion of the display the individual entries were branded and transported to Patea Freezing Works by motor lorry where they were killed, weighed, branded and dressed for export. The next step will be the shipment to London of this parcel by S.S. “Port Hunter.” On Smithfield Market they will then be judged again by two representatives of the trade, after which they will form a special display and eventually be sold through the agency of the Farmers’ Co-op. Organisation Society of New Zealand, Ltd., whose London principals successfully handled last year’s display. The value of the advertising resulting from last 'year’s display cannot be over-estimated, for besides drawing very favourable comment. from the leading trade journals at Home, the complete parcel was afterwards purchased at top market rates by the well-known produce stores, Harrods’ Ltd., where they were again displayed and favourably commented on. This year’s outstanding display should still further enhance the excellent reputation of Waverley as a fat lamb producing district, and the results of the final judging in London will be eagerly awaited.
