AORANGI RECEIVES 80S. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 3. The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department has been advised as follows by the superintendent of the Auckland Radio Station: The following was received from R.M.S. Aorangi at 11.45 p.m.: “At 11 p.m. (New Zealand standard time) intercepted distress signals from s.s. Hedwig, giving her position as ]at. 20.42, long. 11.50. Nothing was sent to indicate whether north or south or east or west. The S.O.S. was still being sent at 11.30 p.m., with a request to answer on 40 metres. Have been answering him on 40 metres, but have had no response so far.” S.O.S. RECEIVED. [Per Press Association.]' WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. The secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department has received the following radio message: “6.30 a.m. to 6.50 a.m. following was heard on short waves: ‘S.O.S. D.E. S.S. Hedwig Pratas Reef K.’ Pratas Reef is off Hongkong.” REPORT FROM THAMES. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 2. The Auckland police have been informed that an S.O.S. was received at Thames this morning from a ship named Hedwig, stating that she was sinking fast, a considerable distance off the New Zealand coast. ON REEF NEAR HONGKONG WARSHIP TO RESCUE Received Dec. 3, 10.40 p.m. HONGKONG, Dee. 2. The Swedish vessel Hedvig is ashore and breaking up on a coral reef 350 miles south of Hongkong. Tn response to urgent distress signals H.M.S. Storm Cloud is rushing to her assistance, but the very heavy seas and dangerous neighbourhood is likely to prevent a rescue of the 14 people aboard the Hedvig.
