ITALIAN IMMIGRANTS ARRIVALS IN AUSTRALIA GOVERNMENT’S NEW MOVE [By Telegraph—Press Aseociation —Copyright.] eccivcd Dec. 3, 11.10 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 3. Sixty-six Italian migrants who arrived by the Orient liner Orford at Sydney to-day were not allowed to land, under the instructions of the Federal Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Blakely. It is understood that 60 are booked for Brisbane, presumably on route to the canefields of Northern Queensland.
The acting-Prime Minister, Nir J. A. Fenton, dec’incd to comment, saying that it was a matter of international significance, and ho was anxious to avoid complications. A later message states that the. 66 immigrants arc being returned to Italy. Similar action is being taken in the case of 100 Italian immigrants on the Otranto. One hundred more who wore about to embark on the Italian motor ship Romono have been stopped by cable. The only Italians now allowed to enter Australia arc those coming out to join relatives or who have been nominated bv relatives.
