NEW APPOINTMENTS. [ British Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, Dec. 1. The appointment has been approved of Admiral Sir Arthur Waistell to succeed the Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Roger Keyes, as Commander-in-Chief nt Portsmouth, to date from Afay 8 next. Rear-Admiral Wilfred Tomkinson has been appointed Rear-Admiral Commanding the Battle Cruisers Squadron, in succession to Vice-Admiral Pound.
Rear-Admiral Astley Rushton has been appointed Rear-Admiral Commanding the Second Cruiser Squadron in succession to Rear-Admiral Best, both to date from the end of April next. Other appointments announced include that of Rear-Admiral Reinold, who has been appointed Admiral-Super-intendent of the DiCvonport Dockyards; Rear-Admiral James, who is to be Rear-Admiral-in-Charge and Admiral-Super intendent at Gibraltar; Rear-Admiral Im Thum, who is to be Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff; ana Rear-Admiral Noble is to be Director of Naval Equipment.
Admiral Sir Arthur Waistell has been Commander-in-Chief of the China Station since 1929. He is 57 years of age,
commanded the Destroyer Flotillas of the Atlantic Fleet from 1922 to 1923. served as assistant chief of the. Naval Staff in the following year and later commanded the First <' niser Squadron.
Rear-Admiral Tomkinson has been assistant Chief of the Naval Staff since 19*29. and was in command of lI.M S. Lurcher in the famous action at the Heligoland Bight; also he took part in the Zeebrugge raid. Rear-Admiral Edward Astley-Astley Ruston has been Director of the Mobilisation Department of the Admiralty since 1928.
