KEITH STREET SCHOOL
remodelling grant. REQUEST TO MINISTER. A request for a monetary grant to remodel the Keith Street infants : School was placed before the Minister ' of Education (Hon. 11. Atmore) yesterday. Air W. A. Collins, chairman ol the Education Board, said that it was the desire, of the Board to keep men in employment over the Christmas school holidays, and he hoped that the Department would meet the position. Air W. Bruce, 'chairman of the school committee, said that their patience was about exhausted. The parents had done their bit and now thought it was up to the Department to act. Miss Sampson, headmistress, from a plan on a blackboard, illustrated the fact that there was overc-rowding, ana that ventilation was ot the oblique type, which was not modern, and (hat sunshine on one side of the building was not available.
The Minister replied that he could quite understand the request of the committee and the Board. The need for improvement did not require advertising. He understood that there were two other works more urgent
Mr Collins: Baincssc is one
The Minister; That is not so urgent so that disposes of one. Continuing, he said that the building was hopelessly old-fashiohed, and after a talk with Mr Collins and the members of his Board on the matter of urgency, he hoped to be able to say something further before leaving Wanganui.
