PREPARATIONS AT LOS ANGELES CONSTRUCTION OF STADIUM A communication from Los Angeles, California, at the beginning of September, stn'wl that the governments of tjhe City and County of Los Angeles had just awarded the contract for final imu-ovements to Olympic Stadium, in preparation for the Games of tho Tenth Olympiad to be celebrated there from July 30 to August 14, 1932. Improvements being made include increasing the seating capacity from 75,000 to 105,000 num be scats; tho construction of a promenade entirely around the stadium; the installation of offices for committees, officials and juries, and the construction of adequate facilities for tho world press and the sports technical department. In Olympic Stadium will be held the athletic events (track and field), gymnastics, horse jumping events, field hockey, opening and closing* ceremonies, and the marathon an< road cycling races will end there. All facilities in the stadium for the holding of these events will be completed one year before the opening ceremonies. The track is being improved and will be seasoned before tho coming Olympic Games. The playing field, inside the track, is of sufficient size to permit the playing of football, hockey and similar games. Olympic Stadium is located in Olympic Park with the Fine Arts Museum, swimming stadium and the fencing pavilion. Olympic Park is near tho centre of the business district of Los Angeles and is accessible from all parts of tho city. Olympic Stadium was built in 1923, the year in which the Games of the Tenth Olympiad were awarded to Los Anglos. In it have been hold many outstanding athletic, events in which most of the world’s leading athletes have participated.
