LITTLE GIRL INJURED
SENTENCE ON ATTACKER [ Per Press Association. ] DUNEDIN, Dec. 1. Stating that when Stanley Rcdvcre Buller struck a sleeping girl, aged six, over the head with a bottle, he was fully responsible for his act, Judge Kennedy sentenced prisoner to nine months’ reformative treatment.
Medical evidence was that the prisoner showed no signs of insanity, but the crime could be attributed to drinking prior to the offence. The girl’s skull was fractured.
Tho Judge said the prisoner was fortunate he was not charged with murder. The true explanation of prisoner’s conduct was he had struck the girl to spite her father. Although it was some hours since the prisoner took drink, his mind at the time was apparently in an irritated condition. It might be said in prisoner’s favour when ho thought he had murdered the girl, he immediately went to the police and tho latter’s timely assistance may have saved tho girl’s life.
