MINIATURE GOLF

NEW CITY COURSE OPENED. UNIQUE HAZARDS POPULAR. Amid bright surroundings that tended to transport players into a land where the sun always shines, enthusiastic supporters of miniature golf flocked to the new City Golf Links on Saturday evening on the occasion of the official opening. Situated in a large upstairs hall in the premises next to the Catholic Church in Victoria Avenue, the new course, the third in Wanganui, has been laid out on a lavish scale, and the many unique and exacting hazards that have been built excite the interest of players to such an extent that the course cannot fail to prove popular. Sand bunkers, miniature lakes, “the rocky road.” “the crazy castle,” a switch-back, “skittle-alley” and horseshoe hazards all lend a fascination which had players enthralled on Saturday nigl)t. For the official opening there was a brief speech of congratulation by the Mayor, Mr W. J. Rogers, who then proceeded to play the opening round with the town clerk, Mr G. Murch. From the conclusion of this round until closing time, several hours later, there was a constant procession of players eager to participate in the fun. The City Golf Links certainly had an auspicious opening.
