WOMAN’S DEATH

BRUTAL MURDER SUSPECTED. Received Nov 21. 11.5 p.m MELBOURNE, Nov. 21. Mary Dean, aged 25, a school teacher, died early this morning from a fractured skull and shocking internal injuries. The police believe it a case of brutal murder, overshadowing the Mona Griffiths crime.

The dead woman was found in a lane at Elwood suburb. It was first thought she had been outraged, but a post mortem to-day did not substantiate this theory. There were extensile fractures on the skull and evidence of an attempt to strangle her, apart from the internal injuries. She attended a theatre party last night. She possessed considerable literary gifts.
