CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

Sir, —Last Sunday evening 1 attended the Rev. Tye’s advertised addicts on “Mrs Eddy and Christian Science.” The service opened with the words

“Enter not into judgment against thy servant, U Gud, for in Thy sight shall no man be justified.” How well tne preacher followed this good teaching! What fine Christian {Spirit is displayed when ministers of the Gospel go out ot their way to abuse a dead woman, one who perhaps has given more peace and happiness to the world than any other one could name except the Christ, bir, practically the whole talk—une could not call it a sermon—was on Mrs Eddy’s early life before she discovered this great truth of tho teaching of Christ, and an attempt to prove she could not possibly bring any benefits to mankind. The speaker said, “J would not say Mrs Eddy was a good woman but a very clever one.” What a Christian spirit! Still one must remember it was the church who persecuted Christ and his followers. Mr Tye paid us one compliment. “They are not a large body, but they are found throughout the world. They have reached Wanganui; even littic Du tie Hill. They’ tre only about a quarter of a million but a very compact body and in this I would liken them to the Roman Catholics.’’ Is he jealous? Would he have his own flock more compact? Sir, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Can our Rev. gent lonian deny the good done by Christian Science—the blind receive their sight, the deaf hear, broken limbs have been mended, patients pronounced as incurable by doctors and turned out of hospitals now whole, people suffering from nervous depression now carried on the knoxxlcdgc that God, good, is all sufficient for their every need. Does he know that the first Church or Christ Scientist in Boston seats 5000 people and is filled every service. I xvouid take him to Wellington where four or five hundred people brimming over xvith love and happiness gather every Wednesday evening week-night meeting and pour out their thanks, testifying to the saving power of Christ, who said: “ Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, believing, ye shall receive” and “If ye have faith yc shall remove mountains.”

No, sir, the Scientist is not a voich crying in the wilderness. He is sure of his God, it is not a new American Cult, but the old Gospel preached as Christ preached. The Bible is out daily food and our watch word. “Do unto others as ye would have them do unto you.” Thanking you. sir, for valuable apace. Yours faithfully, SCIENTIST.
