Mr and Mrs H. J. Grieve, of St. John's Hill, have returned from a visit to Timaru.
Mrs R. Triggs, of Wiekstccd Street, has returned from Wellington.
Mrs W. Aitken, of Dunedin, is spending a holiday in Wanganui as the guest of Mrs AV. Scannell, St. Hill St. Mrs Bowler has returned to Wanganui East from a month's holiday in Gisborne.
Mrs E. Harvey, of Mangatainoka, is visiting Wanganui. Mrs Avery is visiting her daughter, Mrs J. G. Swainson, of Pahiatua.
Miss J. Gaustad has returned to Pal merston North from a visit to the Wanganui district.
Miss Ballantyne, of Napier, is spending a holiday in Wanganui. Mrs Gj’aham, of the Bay of Islands, who is on an extended visit to AVanganui, recently spent three weeks’ holiday in Feilding and returned to Wanganui last week-end. Mr and Mrs W. C. Shepley, formerly of "Wanganui, who for the past few years have been residing in Auckland, will re-visit Wanganui very shortly. Miss Weight, of Auckland, who has I been the guest of Airs A. Haworth, • College Street, has returned to Auckland. Miss -I \ u Hawken, Waverley, is the guest of Miss Mavis Jarvic, St. John s Hill. Mr and Mrs A. J. Dunn, of Christ’s College, Christchurch, are visiting Wanganui for the Collegiate School-Christ College boat race. While in Wanganui they will be the guests of Rev. C. F. and Mrs Pierce. Listeners-in on the radio last evening had the pleasure of hearing Miss Marjorie Allomes, the well-known Wanganui singer, who was “on the air’’ from 2F.C. Sydney. On Saturday last the Christ Church Girl Guides celebrated their fifth birthday. It is usual to celebrate this important occasion by going for a “hike,” but the weather was too unsettled, and a birthday party was held in St. John’s {Schoolroom. The important work of excavating the site of the Roman city of Verulam is being carried out by a woman, Mrs Wheeler, the wife of Dr, Mortimci Wheeler, keeper and secretary of the London Museum. Mrs Wheeler is the chief administrative officer of a party, which includes her husband, Dr. Davies Price, a number of voluntary workers and about 20 labourer, who have already made a number of important discoveries. Besides organising the work and instructing the diggers, Mrs Wheeler is responsible for sorting and marking the pottery and other relics which are being found.
