PLUNKET SOCIETY

NAME IN ADVERTISING. STRONG OPPOSITION SHOWN. [Per Press Association.J WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. The use of the name Plunket in commercial advertising was denounced at the biennial conference of the Roy:: I Society of Health of Women and Chib! ren, which opened to-day. Various remits of considerable importance will be discussed at the conference, which will continue during the week. One hundred and fifty delegates are attending. The following remit from the Central Council was adopted: “That the branches bo asked to do everything in their power to maintain the broad pol icy of the society by endeavouring tu present the use of its name directly or indirectly for commercial purposes, or as an advertising medium.” The question arose because some dif ference had resulted when one brarcli had received an offer from a firm to give a percentage of the week’s takings to the society in return fo’ lonvc to use the Society’s name in an advertisement.

Sir Truby King spoke strongly against such a practice. After a discussion it was decided to set up a sub committee to draft gu.Jing lines on the matter. Sir Truby King. Mr J. A. Young, Mrs Parkes (Auckland) and Mrs Gilmour (Lyttelton) were appointed a sub committee.
