NOT AMALGAMATION
TOPIC OF DISCUSSION. REFORM AND COUNTRY PARTIES. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. The suggestion circulated to-day tha: :i conference between representatives of the Reform and Country parties on Monday was held to consider amalgamation of the parties is emphatically denied by ewe spokesmen, the Leader of the Opposition Right Hon. J. G. Coates, ami Air A. A. Ross, president of the Auckland Provincial Branch of the New Zcalar-' Farmers’ Union, “We considered none but economic questions,” said Mr Coates this aftermon “It is quite incorrect to say that political matters were reviewed. Party representatives met simply to exchange : leas on the position of the New Zealand pr mary producer at the present juncture. ’ ’
“There is no truth in the suggestion that the amalgamation of the Reform and Country parties was discussed,” said Mr Ross.” “The official report states that the conference was called to consider the serious economic posi tion of rhe primary producer and that is what took place. Nothing else was disclosed. So far as amalgamation between the Country Party and any other political party is concerned, I can only say that, while it is prepared to uphold any party that will give effect to the proposals it advocates, the Country Party has no intention whatever of amalgamating with any other political organisation. ’ ’
