MARTON NEWS
DRUNKEN MOTORIST.
In the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning before Messrs H. Y. Cameron and J. Mogridge, sen. J.’s.P., Rufus Randolph Parker, aged 27 years, of Wanganui was charged with being found intoxicated in charge of a motor car in Broadway. He was arrested by Constable Thompson. He was further charged on the information of Air H. J. Fowler (traffic inspector) with being in charge of an unroadworthy vehicle which was not properly equipped, in that it was minus a reflecting mirror. The accused who pleaded guilty on all charges, was represented by Mr K. A. Williams, who stated that accused fully realised the seriousness of his position, and recognising that his arrest was due* to drinking had taken out a prohibition order against himself for 12 months and it v s his intention to renew it periodically. After all evidence had been heard the Bench adjourned for some moments be fore giving a decision. Returning, the Justices impressed on Parker the seriousness of his offence which was one not lightly regarded nowadays. Drink and motoring did not mix, and whereever there was any suggestion of the two being combined cancellation of the licence was always the first consideration. In view of the worn awaiting ac cused, for which the use of the car was imperative, rather than take the chance of livelihood away, they would not cancel the license and accused was to be let off very lightly. A fine of £2O was imposed on the major charge and convictions were entered on the other two. Costs were for £1 and accused was allowed one month in which to find the money. TRINITY COLLEGE OF MUSIC.

As the vacancy caused by the death ol Mr Bill had not been filled, it was suggested that the name of Mr Christensen be forwarded to Trinity College as one who would be both eligible and a distinct gain to the local board. Miss Mountford reported favourably on the past year’s operations ami also that there is every prospect of a sue cessful a year ahead.
