Chums Indulge in a Little Boxing

Richard and Gwen have quarrelled once m or e, and of course, each hlamcs the other. It happened like this. One morning at brc R kfast, Richard saw the picture of a boxing match, and it immediately struck him that here was something they could teach Ted., who knew nothing whatever about boxing. Gwen thought it was a splendid idea.

It was decided that they should take Ted up to the garret, where there was plenty of room, and where they would not be interrupted. On the way, they met Polly and told her all particulars of th*' new idea. "Fancy,” said Richard, "Ted knows nothjig about hosing. We re going upstairs tr give him a lesson.” "Yes!” added Gwen, "Richard and I.”

In the garret Richard put on the gloves and showed Ted how to use them. "You put out your left arm like this,” h e said, "spring forward on vour toe*, and the* slap out with your right hand. It’s quite simple.” "Rather,’ cried Polly. "It looks easy enough,’’ said Ted.

Now, to give Ted a better idea of how it was done, Gwen and Richard agreed to bo< each other. "You watch what I do,” said Richard. "I shall lead off with my left hand and awing round with my right.” "What will Gwen do?” asked Ted. "She will show you how to dodge the blow," replied Richard.

Everything might have been as Richard planned if Gwen had done the right fhinff. But, somehow, she wasn’t quick enough. As it happened, Richard swung round with his right and caught Gwen a terrific smask on the nose. "That’s the way to do it, Ted,” shouted Polly. But Gwen, who was seeing heaps of stars and things, did not think so.

All Gwen’s good temper disappeared with the smack, and, before Richard quite knew what had happened, he received one back. ,r You watch me! I’ll show jou,” Gwen screamed. And then, . am sorry to say, she a"d Richard forgot all about Ted’s lesson and mud* a real fight of it. All the time Tod though they were showing him how it should be done, and they were more annoyed than ever when he thanked them for taking so much trouble.
