CONTROL OF GOLF

NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL I;' APPEAL COMMITTEE ELECTED The following appeal committee, to hold office for the next three years, was appointed at the monthly meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council, held in Wellington on Alonday:—Alessrs A. D. S. Duncan, W. A. Kiely, M. J. Crombie, P. B. Cook and Colonel R. O. Chesney. Arising out of the matters discussed at the annual general meeting, the council discussed the question of the establishment of a Board of Green Keeping Research and it was resolved that the principle is unanimously approved of by the council, subject to financial support being forthcoming from the clubs. It was resolved to prepare a report on the matter and to appeal to all clubs for their practical support, indicating in the communication to the clubs what it is expected that the limite of their contribution would be.

Another new club was elected a member of the association, the Ohura Golf Club, Ohura, King Country, making the total membership in the association 176 clubs.

A letter was received from Mr W. A. Windeyer. Sydney, in connection with the set of proposed conditions for the playing of the Kirk-Windeyer Cup matches, and, as Air Windeyer referred to original conditions as agreed upon by Air Kirk and himself, it was resolved to write and ask him to send some further particulars regarding these, in order that a set of rules may be finally agreed upon. Afr Windeyer in his letter advised that the New South Wales Golf Association had decided that the next KirkWindeyer Cup oompetition shall be played at Kensington, Sydney, next June, just prior to the New South Wales State championships, which will be played at Rose Bay the following week. A cablegram was received from America asking whether, if Cniickshank ■and Sarazen came over to New Zealand in November next year, it would be possible to arrange 18 matches and to control and guarantee the same. The secretary’s reply was confirmed to the effect that such an arrangement would not be possible.
