PATEA AMATEUR ATHLETICS | The first of the weekly evening runs! of the season was held last Wednesday, when there was a good attendance of members, amongst whom were several i newcomers. The programme included a 75 yards sprint, and a half-mile race., the latter being won by one of the newcomers, H. Edwards. Results of the races were as follow: 75 yards: G. Although there was an annoving wind, the afternoon proved in every way a great success. The winner was Airs R. Hughes who, although only a new player is taking a great interest in the game and is keen to improve. We congratulate her on her win. SUNSHINE FAJR AND FLOWER SHOW All preparations arc well in hand for the annual flower show held by SU George’s <’hureh. The last few days weather has brought on the growth of the flowers beautifully. and then) should bo a very good showing. There are to be five or six competitive class* os: Best collection of flowers (arrange* ment considered); best collection of roses; best arranged oowt ut flowers; best three buttonholes; best early Victorian posy. There are to be prizes (first and second) in each class. Besides tho floral part of the show, there will be numerous stalls and amusing side shows.
