SNEAK THIEF’S ESCAPE

BARBER’S FIERCE CHASE ROBBERY FROAI A SHOP After being chased for more than half an hour, a sneak thief escaped near Waverley, Sydney, recently. While ho was shaving a customer, a tobacconist, Lindsay Wright, heard a movement in the front of the shop. He looked around in time to see a young man, who had reached over the counter and quietly opened a drawer, seize a cigar-box, which contained about £l6. “Stop thief/’ shouted Air Wright, and chased the man as he dashed from the shop. The runaway discarded the cigar box, but retained the money. Air Wright was out-distanced, and when he secured a taxi-cab there was no sign of the fugitive. A hurried tour of the locality resulted in the thief being seen again, and the chase was resumed fiercely. Just when it seemed that Air Wright would capture the man he was flung from the footboard of the taxicab. Later on. after he had rushed through several backyards and had doubled on his tracks to outwit his pursuers, the thief was seen again. Air Wright, the taxi-driver, and at least eight pedestrians were hot on his trail when he finally disappeared, leaving his pursuers almost exhausted.
